What’s in a name? It’s something you carry everywhere you go and defines who you are at times. When creating the Resilient Arrow Project we were very intentional with the name. It’s heavily symbolic to the population it serves and the inspiration for that service.
The dictionary defines resilient as
1. able to withstand or recover from difficult conditions
2. able to recoil or return back to shape after being bent, stretched or compressed.
It does NOT define resilience as “broken”.
We so often get to see this resilient nature in the children we are blessed to serve. They are able to persevere and withstand situations that are extremely difficult both physically and emotionally. These little warriors shine bright. They might be bent, stretched or squeezed in the process…..but they are never broken!
The arrow comes from a biblical scripture found in Psalms 127:4-5 that reads “Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”
The inspiration in spreading love and joy is bigger than us…it is the Love we are freely given from God. It’s given without expectation or demand. It’s free!
We are blessed by these little arrows that have a true and perfect trajectory. They are resilient in their path despite any obstacles. Each of these children are having big impacts along their course. The Resilient Arrow Project hopes to help them each hit their mark!
The Resilient Arrow Project stands to serve children with medical complexities and the healthcare providers who serve them by providing access to life-changing treatments, equipment, travel, family services and financial assistance.
Sponsor
The Brave-Like-a-Lion Scholarship is a financial endowment provided to families pursuing Intensive Therapy services. This scholarship was formed in honor of our friend, James Ryan Henson Jr, the original Brave-Like-a-Lion example. He and his family have advocated for intensive therapies for children with medical complexities and helped to educate clinicians and families on the value of this treatment approach. James passed away in December 2022 unexpectedly but the Light and Joy that he spread in his "Jamesyness" will remain with each of us forever. This scholarship is intended to sprinkle a little Jamesyness just as he always did
Send
These financial endowments are available to healthcare providers who are participating in Mission opportunities serving children with medical complexities all over the world. It is our heart to assist clinicians in reaching children with the blessings, services, and knowledge that they have to share.
Serve
Families often have unexpected costs and situations. Things like hospital stays, travel, and even funeral costs can surprise families unexpectedly. We desire to assist these families in these difficult times. This might mean a warm meal and snacks delivered to the hospital, a new, warm blanket in those cold hospital corridors, or assisting with costs that are so heartbreaking.
Supply
The right equipment can make things so much easier! Obtaining the right equipment is never easy. We hope to assist families and therapists obtaining specialized and adaptive equipment when additional financial means are needed. Our Send Initiative is courtesy of Izzy Gives. This initiative honors our friend Izzy who set the tone for us as the ultimate gift giver. Read more about her and this service area on the Izzy Gives page.
